Lauderdale Beach Club     The Lauderdale Beach Hotel Original 1936-37 Building

Today the Easternmost section of the 1936 Lauderdale Beach Hotel is part of a 201 unit, 28 story condominium, -- The Las Olas Beach CLub -- at 101 South Lauderdale Beach Boulevard. -- built by The Related Group of Miami. It is the only Broward hotel designed by one of Miami Beach's most well known art deco architects, Roy France. France's work includes The National, The St. Moritz, the Cadillac, the Saxony, the Edgewater Beach, the Sans Souci and the Casablanca.

It was designated an historic landmark by the Fort Lauderdale Commission October 19, 2004 But this protection was won the hard way.

When the City's Planning and Zoning board voted to support demolition in October 2001, The Broward Trust faught to preserve this popular hotel which had sparked the much welcomed tourist industry following the disastrous 1926 hurricane and and economic depression. An application for historic designation was submitted and approved by the City's Historic Preservation Board January,. 2002. Ownership changed and legal actions ensued. It wasn't until early summer of 2004 when a compromise was reached by the City, the Trust and The Related Group

The historic section and the new condominium tower renamed
Las Olas Beach Club

The Trust agreed to support a new garage and condominium development to the West and demolition of a small portion of the hotel. The Related Group agreed to restore the remaining part of the hotel converting it to seven condominium apartments with street level commercial use . Related also agreed to hire architectural preservation experts to supervise the restoration.

The Trust was given a deed of preservation easement which grants monitoring and enforcement rights for the restoration, maintenance and protection of the East, North and South facades in perpetuity.
