The Trust submitted an application for historic designation which was approved by the Historic Preservation Board 8-0 on July 12, 2004

The Escape Hotel: 2900 Riomar Street, Fort Lauderdale

On October 19, 2004 the City Commission passed a resolution granting historic designation for landmark status by a vote of 5-0.

The owner is RMS Properties, Chicago.

Since that time the owner's architectural representative has met with the city planning department, many times as well as with the neighborhood association and the Broward Trust in the design of town houses on the south side of the property. The Central Beach Alliance voted overwhelmingly in favor of the attractive design which respects the scale, street scape and integrity of the surrounding buildings. The Broward Trust has appeared at several public meetings in support of the adaptive reuse of the designated building and the design of the addition.

Status: Awaiting City Commission vote approving the project.
