The Annie Beck Education Center
On January 8, 2008 the Fort Lauderdale City Commission gave permission for the Broward
Trust to relocate the endangered 1916 Annie Beck House from 310 SE 11th Avenue to Fort
Lauderdale's Middle River Terrace Park at 1329 North Dixie Highway. The house was moved to
it's new home on July 27, 2008. The house will be restored and managed by the Trust as the
Annie Beck Education Center. It will be available to Middle River Terrace residents,
garden clubs and to other non-profit groups for special events and educational purposes.

To preserve the Beck Cottage and create the Center, many interests have collaborated.
Owner Diana Heileman donated the craftsman style bungalow to the protection of the
Broward Trust and generously assisted with moving funds. The City of Fort
Lauderdale leased the site to the Trust and provided tree and utility relocation
services. The Middle River Terrace Neighborhood Association welcomed the newcomer
to its park and will share in its use. The Broward Trust accepted financial
responsibility for restoration, maintenance of the cottage and management of the Center. The
Microsoft Corporation has provided matching funds for the move. The Tamara Peacock
Company provided architectural and construction management services. The McLaughlin
Engineering Company contributed surveying expertise. Gustavo Carbonell provided
architectural assistance. Northern Trust Bank hosted a fund raising event. Other
funding sources have been grants from the Florida State Department Division of Historic
Resources and the Broward County Historical Commission.
The relocation which includes a restoration cost of $400,000 requires enormous generosity
and fierce dedication from architects, painters, gardeners, landscape experts, carpenters,
plumbers and electricians many of whom are volunteers.
